FAQ
- Are my images uploaded anywhere?
- No. The conversion runs inside your browser using the image support it already has, so the files never leave your device. If that fails, this tool will not send anything to the server without asking you first.
- Will WebP open everywhere?
- In every current browser, and in Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. Older desktop software and some older photo apps still cannot read it, so for a file you are handing to someone else — a form, a print shop, a client — JPEG or PNG is the safer choice.
- Is transparency kept?
- Yes. WebP supports transparency, so a transparent PNG or GIF comes back with it intact — and usually much smaller than the PNG was.
- Is the Exif data — date, camera, GPS — kept?
- Yes. This is a converter, so it changes the format and leaves everything else alone: camera, date taken, copyright, and the GPS coordinates if the photo had them. Worth knowing before publishing the file — the location travels with it.
- Can I convert several images at once?
- Yes, and they can be different formats. Select or drop up to 50 files (200MB in total) and you get one ZIP back with one WebP per image. A ZIP of images works as an input too.
- How much smaller will the files be?
- For photographs, usually a quarter to a third of a comparable JPEG. For screenshots, logos and line art the saving against PNG is often much larger again. Images that are already small or heavily compressed may barely change.
- What about animated GIFs and animated WebP?
- Only the first frame is converted, and the result says so. This tool produces still images; it is not an animation converter.
- What are the limits?
- 50 files or 200MB per batch in the browser, and 50MB for a single file.
